hellyeah.interaction
get back to the roots of the internet. the exchange of ideas and the flow of individuals from all over the world. there are many places for people to chat, and we've looked at these and while they're great on the surface, they rarely have the same abilities as other solutions. in particular web-based chat. web-based chat is excedingly stupid and lame, not to mention a pain in the ass to use.
xerox parc people a long time ago wrote something that they called a moo. it stands for "mud : object oriented" which is a nice way of saying that its a multi-user environment that is entirely based on programming where everything is represented by "objects".
but i'm not here to teach programming, since personally i couldn't do it adequetly. the important part is that there is a neat place to explore and talk to people, and its pretty easy to learn too.
you can get a crash course by using a simple telnet program. there are clients you can run on your machine to connect it a little easier and make things a little prettier, but really all you have to have is a telnet program which many of you already have.
give it a shot if you're into a crash course. if you want more info there are lots of sites dealing with moos and moo'ing but usually they're leaning more towards people that code one for themselves. really these things aren't relevant unless you're someone thats in charge of coding the moo. contact emory if you want some information where you can find more indepth official moo information.
but the hellyeah moo is a place for people to talk, to react, to interact. or its a good place to kill time too. and you wouldn't be here right now if you weren't into killing time now, would you?
there are some governing bodies in charge of the moo, to assure that its goals get met and to help mediate disputes between the users. this is all pretty early stuff, so bear with us while we clean up sawdust left from digging rooms all over the place and making you furniture to sit in.
after you connect, please type help if you're confused, and if you have a problem, type "@911" and a member of our community group will contact you on the moo or via email if none are currently connected or around.
moo.purpose
the purpose of the moo is to provide a place for individuals to meet and talk in a non-threatening environment that promotes education and the exchange of ideas.
its not for the purpose of role-playing as many of the people on it are very real and act just like they would in normal every day life. so you must treat people with respect because there is meat at the ends of these terminals.
we are in the process of delegating moo.responsibilities to people in areas that they have some skill or interest. we're not looking for more people to run the joint right now, but if you have prior moo programming experinace your presence would be very appreciated.
especially if you're cool. heh.
how.moo and why jhm
we have looked at many cores, or bases for this moo. at this point we felt that Jays House Moo (JHCore) did the best job of having the features we wanted to make chatting with one another easy, and having things like furniture objects already done for us and let us focus on building and doing things we needed to and got more pleasure doing. please don't email and tell anyone to use BlahBlahBlahcore. we looked at it. we didn't want it.
if you use a MacOS based computer, you may want to try a neat client called Savitar for the hellyeah.moo. you can download it off heynow.com's webserver. (heynow? hellyeah!)
if you're UNIX inclined (including FreeBSD and Linux) you can use TinyFugue or "tf" to connect. or if you have tcl/tk installed i really recommend that you use TkMoo-Lite. even if you have a MacOS machine or a Windows-based computer you can use TkMoo-Lite as long as you go through the process of getting tcl/tk for your platform. it may be worth it for a really nice and clean moo client, but its up to you. i wouldn't recommend it for you if you don't know what tcl and tk are though.
for those windows95 and NT users out there, you may want to take a peek at pueblo though its our observation that most clients you could use for a moo are leaning more towards RPG's and muds. they're kinda silly that way. there are other clients too, here's a page full of them.
at any rate, the address for the place is moo.hellyeah.com port 7777.
